Eminem Revives Slim Shady Vibes with New Single 'Houdini'

Eminem takes a nostalgic and self-aware journey back in time with his much-anticipated new single.

Released overnight, "Houdini" is a catchy throwback track that samples the Steve Miller Band's 1982 hit "Abracadabra" and Eminem's own "Without Me," featuring a breezy lyrical style not heard from the Detroit rapper in some time.

The single debuted during the opening of the 2024 NFL Draft in downtown Detroit on April 25, 2024. As a prelude to his upcoming album "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)," this four-minute track showcases vintage Eminem, complete with the irreverent, self-deprecating humor and politically incorrect shock value that marked his earlier work, enhanced by his clever wordplay.

The music video for "Houdini," released early Friday, adds a retro touch with appearances by the iconic blond-haired Slim Shady, juxtaposed with the current-day, 51-year-old Marshall Mathers. The video, like the song, is rich with references to Eminem's previous works, including the comic book-themed "Without Me" video from 2002, featuring Dr. Dre. Cameos by comedians Shane Gillis and Pete Davidson, along with Eminem's three children, add to the video’s nostalgic charm.

Announced in a commercial aired during the NFL Draft, "The Death of Slim Shady" is set for a summer release and marks Eminem's first album since 2020's "Music to Be Murdered By."
